I am commanded by the Army Council to acquaint
you, for the information of the Secretary of State for the
Colonies, that they have under consideration the question
of renewing the War Department Submarine Telephone Cable
at Hong Kong. In connection with this it is desired to
obtain certain information with reference to cables which
have been laid by the Colonial office and renewed or are
still in use, within the last 10 to 15 years, at this
Station.

The Council will be pleased if the Secretary of
State sees no objection to particulars under the following
headings being furnished at an early date:-
Date when laid, shewing time in commission if renewed.

Type of Cable,
(ii)
(111)
Record of any tests available.
